Lettuce should be as easy to use and wash as possible, stay fresh for as long as possible, and taste delicious. Rijk Zwaan has developed a lettuce type that is specially designed for convenience and efficiency: Salanova.
It's all about the leaves
Just one cut is enough to separate the head of lettuce into lots of baby leaves. The flavour and texture range from the soft, subtle taste of Salanova Butter to the crunchy bite of Salanova Crispy. The Salanova assortment comprises 5 different lettuce types (butterhead, oakleaf, lollo, crispy and batavia) in 2 colours (red and green). Salanova has three times more leaves than other lettuces. All of the leaves are small in size, similar to baby leaf.
Salatrio: the newest edition to the Salanova family
At Rijk Zwaan we are truly passionate about Salatrio, our attractive lettuce bouquet with not one, not two, but three different lettuce varieties. People often ask us why it includes three varieties. Well, growing three seeds on a single root ball creates the perfect balance: a flavoursome and juicy green, an attractive red, and a third variety with a contrasting colour, texture or leaf shape. If that doesn’t catch the consumer’s eye, nothing will! Importantly, the combination of varieties is not fixed, so there is always a mix that meets your needs depending on the market, consumer preferences and the supply chain.
