Gimli RZ is fun-sized, fridge-friendly celery - standing at just 30cm tall.
Mini-sized vegetables are a great way to expand the snacking, convenience and hospitality markets. Smaller vegetables also have the potential to reduce the environmental impacts of production and consumption, requiring less inputs, producing less on-farm and consumer food waste, and needing less packaging.
Gimli has the added benefit of an ideal texture and taste. The stringless stems make it ideal for snacking and for Asian cuisine.
Gimli RZ has 8 useable sticks and is easy to harvest. It’s uniform and upright, without many side shoots.
Harvesting was approximately 2 weeks faster than traditional celery.
In Victoria, the main growing season is January till June harvest. Winter crops perform better in warmer areas.
