Erta Ale RZ is a green, hot chilli variety. The fruit is long, wide and heavy. They grow to 14 – 15 cm, with an average fruit weight of 30-40 grams.
Erta Ale has been developed for picking when green and has consistently high heat/pungency levels.
The skin is dark, thick, glossy and smooth. Appearance, flavour and quality are fantastic for the fresh market.
Fruits could also be grown to maturity as a red pepper for the processed market.
This is a sturdy variety for open-field production, the plants are strong, upright and highly productive – this is a high-yielding variety.
Erta Ale’s resistance package stands out. With resistance to both Tomato Spotted Wilt Virus (TSWV) and Bacterial Leaf Spot resistance (Xcv), as well as Powdery Mildew (Lt) - Erta Ale is a great option for growers wanting to reduce crop vulnerability to disease pressure.
